The history of Nggusuwaru University (UNSWA) began with the Bima Institute of Teacher Training and Education (IKIP Bima) Foundation with deed number 99 and deed date 13 November 1976, notary office Abdurrahim, SM., Mataram – Lombok. In 1975 the IKIP Foundation began pioneering a college called IKIP Bima. Over time, it was changed to the College of Education (STIP) Bima. The first department that received permission was Education Science and 2 (two) study programmes, namely the Guidance and Counseling study programme (bachelor level), and the Philosophy and Sociology of Education study programme (bachelor level).
In order to develop itself, in 1979 STIP Bima opened new departments and study programmes, namely the Department of Education Science with the study programme Educational Psychology and Guidance. Then the MIPA Education department with the study programme opened was Biology Education. Then the Business World Education department with the study programme opened was the Cooperative Education study programme at D3 and S1 levels. The Department of Education obtained registered status in 1986, while the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Education and the Department of Business World Education received registered status in 1987.
In 1987, STIP Bima proposed a name change to become the Bima College of Teacher Training and Education (STKIP) with 3 departments, namely 1) education science department with 1 study program, namely the Guidance and Counselling Study Program; 2) Social Science Education Department with 1 study program, namely the Cooperative Economic Education study program; and 3) Mathematics and Natural Sciences Education Department with 1 study program, namely the Biology Education study program. STKIP Bima continued to increase the number of new study programmes by proposing 2 study programmes. In 2006, STKIP Bima obtained 2 new study programmes, namely Sociology Education (Social Science Education Department), and Mathematics Education (Natural Science Education Department).
In an effort to increase the number of study programmes, in 2014 STKIP Bima re-opened 2 study programmes, namely Physics education study programme and Chemistry education study programme. So that the number of study programmes managed by STKIP Bima became 7 study programmes, as shown in Table B.1. In order to adjust to the law on foundations that must be determined by the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the IKIP Bima Foundation, whose provisions were not made through the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, then in 2020, IKIP Bima submitted an adjustment. So that on 15 October 2020 the IKIP Bima foundation changed to the Bima Teaching and Education Foundation through the Ministry of Law and Human Rights decision Number: AHU-AH.01.06-0021084 and notarial deed No. 1 dated 05 October 2020. In connection with the change in the nomenclature of the foundation, the organising body of STKIP Bima is the Bima Teaching and Education Science Foundation based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture Number 32/E/O/2021 dated 8 February 2021.
